Maly secures funding for Upper Memorial Park restoration
Councilwoman Janice Maly looks over final plans for Upper Memorial Park improvements with Township Engineer, Paul Lasek. The plans include new swings, lighting and fencing, a walking path and various security measures
After a series of meetings with neighboring residents, Bloomfield Recreation Director Anthony Nesto, Bloomfield Police, and the Bloomfield Engineering Department, Councilwoman Janice Maly has secured a $450,000 grant to refurbish Upper Memorial Park the entrance of which is on Spring Street near East Almira Street. The project will be completed without using tax dollars.
Maly said, “Residents were complaining that the park is in disrepair and was being under utilized because of lack of equipment, proper lighting and a general feeling that the area has been overtaken by older teens who tend to make it a hang out after dark.
We all saw the potential to make this a beautiful showcase of recreation for our youngsters. Neighbor, Paul Lasek who has recently been appointed as our new township engineer was kind enough to volunteer his expertise and vision by drawing up the actual plans after consulting with Mr. Nesto.”
The project is slated for completion in 2006 and will include new swings, a walking path, enhanced lighting, new fencing and various security measures.
