Councilwoman Janice Maly's campaign theme, "Getting things done...putting the 1st ward first" reflects her first term
Because of the support of first ward voters, thirty three months ago I took the oath of office for the first time as your First Ward Councilwoman. I truly appreciate the voters’ affording me the opportunity to serve as their local representative on the township council.
While preparing to run for re-election this November 8, I reflected upon my first term accomplishments. I am proud of the fact that I was able to fulfill most of my campaign promises, am diligently working to complete the remainder and have been able to help many of my constituents with their specific concerns.
I would genuinely appreciate another term in office so that I can finish the work I started on January 1, 2003. My background and some of my first term accomplishments are as follows:
For the past 14 years, my husband Patrick and I have owned our home at 31 Gillespie Road. We have two boys, Sean, 14 and Brian 8.
For the past 18 years, I have been an educator and am proud to have been the recipient of the 2001 Governor's Teachers Recognition Award. I am a parishioner of Saint Valentine Church.
My campaign slogan is "Getting things done...Putting the 1st Ward first." I firmly believe in proactive government - not reactive government. I am proud of my first term accomplishments which include:
-Created and serve as chair for Bloomfield’s first ever Traffic Safety Committee
-Restored twice per month recycling pick-up
-Restored all year round twice per week trash pick-up
-Instrumental in TV-35’s restructuring
-Sponsored law to fine parents of illegal students
-Secured $1.1 million in grants for the 1st ward, including: Upper Memorial Park, Pulaski Park, the skate park, Brookside Park and curbing and sidewalk replacement
-Initiated concept of town newsletter now known as the Bloomfield Buzz
-Increased hours of commuter shuttle
-Led charge to replace former town administrator
-Restroom renovation at Memorial Park
-Fought to protect the environment
As you can see, I have fulfilled many of my 2002 campaign promises. However, I need another term of office in order to complete what I started.
My vision for the next three years includes:
-Continue Traffic Safety Program to include dedicated Traffic Safety Enforcement Unit within the Bloomfield Police Department
-Continue to find ways to stabilize property taxes
-Create more senior citizen housing
-Enhanced lighting at Wright’s Field
-Make the Montgomery Street entrance to Wright’s Field safer for our children to cross over to
-Finalize the implementation of the Reverse 911 System which is capable of rapidly alerting all Bloomfield citizens to an emergency or other critical information
-New curbing and sidewalks—This program will target different streets every year
-Continue to work to protect the environment
-Secure additional grants for recreation and senior citizen uses
-Continue to oversee TV-35’s transformation into a state of the art public access station
-Sponsor law to prevent price gouging when vehicles are towed from private property
-Create senior citizen monitoring program known as the “Are You Okay” system
-Continue to work with Essex County officials to upgrade 1st ward intersections
As always, if re-elected, I will continue to cast every vote in the best interest of all 1st ward residents.
I thank you for taking the time to read my newsletter and learn about my background, accomplishments and vision for the next three years.

I would be honored to receive your vote on November 8th. My ballot position is 11-A. I promise to continue to be the 1st ward’s voice on the township council.
